Supertrucks began trading 10th August 1981, at Beaufort Street, St Helens and currently still occupy the same premises. On the 5th November that same year, it was established as a Limited Company manufacturing general commercial vehicle bodies.
Glass Carriers were progressively becoming a bigger percentage of production in the early years which then extended to converting panel vans, and by 1984 it was decided to focus solely on this market.
During the next two years, the rack, which was an integral part of the bodies was re-developed and improved to allow the manufacture of a stand-alone rack that could be attached to panel vans. This was achieved by the innovative design of several aluminium extrusions (some to accept rubber inserts) that interconnect, and when secured together formed a strong solid unit fit for the purpose.
In 1986 Supertrucks exhibited the rack for the first time at Glassex, held at the NEC in Birmingham, and the subsequent success established the company as the leading provider in the UK and Ireland markets. Some of Supertrucks more illustrious customers include Pilkington, Saint Gobain and Munster Joinery.
Through a policy of continual improvement, the company customer base widened to include the German, Belgium and Danish markets and with France and Italy on the horizon, our reputation in Europe is growing. Success has been gained by building a network of Partners across the UK, and in Germany, Belgium and Denmark - most established Commercial Vehicle Body Builders in their own right, appointed primarily as installers. With these connections and a sharing of information, the company is able to maintain a healthy lead over competition.
In January 2001, Supertrucks opened a new extended body shop and offices. This together with the reorganisation of the existing work shop streamlined body production and improved manufacturing capacity considerably.
In 2005 in the rack shop, Supertrucks invested in modern technology and automated rack production. It changed radically the production process and as a consequence, introduced the company to other new technologies, materials and ideas that now benefit and include production improvements in the body shop.
Through this continual progress and striving to improve the product and production itself, our administration became better organised. In December 2007 we put it to the test and achieved ISO 9001 Certification.
